BBQ Grill Covers
This past Holiday season I got a brand new BBQ Grill Cover for my grill. I had just purchased a new Char-Broil infrared grill, and needed a way to protect it. Hey, we BBQ 12 months a year down here in Dallas, so a grill cover and any kind of grilling accessory is always welcome.
I was a bit skeptical when I received the box and it was a Brinkman grill cover. I had “heard” of them before, but up until then I was really only familiar with some of the Weber covers I had seen. My grill is bigger than my old one and needed a 65 inch cover. I was very surprised when I opened the box. It was their premium grill cover, and was less than $30.
The cover was made of a solid material. The box says it is woven polyester, but it felt like a combination close and vinyl. It was very think and there wasn’t a chance of it ripping on a sharp corner or in the winds of a strong storm. It fit perfectly over my grill, and had nice velcro straps on the side to help hold the BBQ grill cover in place. It also had some vents around the outside, but not the kind of vents that will allow moisture inside.
It’s very nice, and I would give the premium Brinkman covers a strong and positive review. I know you can purchase them on Amazon, for those people who don’t want to leave the house. But, for those who don’t mind getting out for a hearty shopping trip at Home Depot or Lowes, you can find them there as well. It may be better that way… just in case you need to return it because you got a cover that was too small or too big.
Black is the standard color, and I didn’t see too many other alternatives beyond this… even on Amazon.
Two other reasons why you need a quality BBQ grille cover is that if your grill is exposed to the sun, and your not under an awning, stored in the garage, etc, it can help protect it from the direct sun. In Texas, our sun gets just a bit warm, and it if the cover can help my grill last a bit longer from not being exposed to the direct sun, then it is definitely worth the $30. It’s not just the surface you’re worried about after all. It’s the electric start wiring, the grill elements, and other parts. This is especially true for those who don’t just have a black-kettle charcoal grill. It can also protect direct exposure of the elements to the gas tank on your grill.
The second reason you need a quality BBQ grill is that you don’t want to have to go spend another $30 a year later. I guarantee you that you won’t. You don’t need anything that is cheap, thin, easily ripped plastic or vinyl. You need something like a premium Brinkman. I’m not sure if they sell one that isn’t “premium,” or if that is just a descriptor they give to it in order to make it sound like it is higher quality. Either way… I think if you spend more than $25-$35 you have probably spent too much (unless you have a mammoth grill). But, spending less than that is probably a mistake too.
